KAREN TYLER

A passion for all things “mission” has been the heartbeat of Karen Tyler’s life and faith from the time she was a freshman in high school in southeast Texas, where she lived most of her life.  Her mission experiences with the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and the Pee-Posh (Maricopa) tribes near Phoenix, Arizona launched her into a life-long mission of caring for the marginalized and sharing the gospel both in the United States and globally.

Trained and licensed as a pharmacist, Karen has birthed several non-profit organizations that care for the health and well-being of struggling families both in the United States and in Guatemala.  Her current role as Pastor of Missions at The Woodlands Methodist Church (TWMC) has allowed her to expand her ministry globally to help equip and encourage Christians to share the gospel.   Karen served in a variety of ministry roles in Houston area churches prior to her role at TWMC.

Karen graduated from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and then obtained her theological education through Candler School of Theology (Emory University) and Duke Divinity School.

Karen has five adult children and four grandchildren and currently resides in The Woodlands, Texas.

WORKSHOP

Leaving the Margins: In the Levitical laws that govern the holiness of God’s people, there is a command that is issued for agrarian landowners to leave the margins of the fields unharvested for the poor and the sojourner. It can be easy to skip over the commandments of the Old Testament as if they no longer have value on this side of the cross. But what if there are hidden gems that give us real clarity into the character of God that are found in some of these lesser mined passages? Drawing on decades of experience working with the under-resourced and marginalized populations, Rev. Karen Tyler, Pastor of Missions at The Woodlands Methodist Church will explore the timeless principle found in Leviticus 23:22 and how our lives can be transformed by incorporating this truth into our lives.
